Exercise walkway

With enough financial support and good planning, even a simple exercise paths along a river can be transformed into a park-like environment.

This is the exercise path (about 1km distance) just behind my condominium. Part of it is shaded by the trees. The river is teeming with fish. In previous months, when otters were abound, some fish ended in the stomach of the otters.

In the evening or early morning, there are many people (young and old) going out doing their exercise routines (walking, jogging, cycling etc). There are some people fishing at designated areas of the exercise path.

Self Reflection

Time flies. Things happen fleetingly. Sometimes, it is good to slow down and engage in some self reflection.

All the Deities in the World

This Hindu temple is located next to Guangying Temple in Waterloo Street.

The brightly coloured facade, with its multitude of deities never fails to pique my interest.

Local Chinese (who are not Christian) will pay respect to both the deities in Guangying Temple and Hindu temple. Religion harmony is aptly on display here, unpretentiously.

Layer of toughness

The layers of tree bark are peeling off.

They represent years of hardship endured by the tree. It is not a pretty sight. But it exudes spirit of endurance...

CK and Jo's wedding

This is the day most parents are waiting for - their child's wedding.

Solemnization of marriage

And the day has finally arrived!

CK and Jo held their wedding lunch on May 10, 2025. They planned the entire event on their own, with the help of their friends. They even choreographed a Muay-Thai / Judo clash near the end of the lunch session. Everything went smoothly, and the guests enjoyed the wedding lunch.

After their wedding, we sent them off for their honeymoon in Switzerland the next day.

As I am writing this blog now, they have arrived in Switzerland for over 5 hours. They are probably doing some sightseeing now.

Wishing them everlasting love and many blissful years ahead!

Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan - EV adventure

Departed by 7 am.

Brief stop at Yong Peng for Brunch. The Jom Charger Charging station at Yong Peng could not be activated using our app!

Fortunately, we managed to locate a Charging Station at Tangkak (Pitstop @ Tangkak) - which offers fast charging facility. What a relief!

Too rush for Pulau Ketam trip - decided to forego the trip.

Stopover at Port Klang for Bak Kut Teh.

Managed to join the boat tour at 7.15pm for firefly and blue tear...

Both firefly and Blue tear were a bit of a let down.... not what I expected. (I imagined seeing fireflies floating around in the air; but instead, they just stayed stationery among the trees. The blue tears were not as grand as what I had anticipated).

Eating late dinner at the seafood restaurant near the jetty.

Drive to Sekinchan - first stop - Coconut Farm.

Next stop (after charging our car for about 1 hour, slow charger) - Pantai Redang and Wishing tree nearby,

Next stop - Ah Mah's House.

Went back to our hotel @ Padi Sentral after dinner...

The next day, breakfast at a local food stall near the market.

早餐
Bought a fish from local fishery... which supposedly sell fresh fish... (but my wife begs to differ!)

Charged our car at DC Handal - to 90% (enough to drive all the way back to Singapore without stopping).

Stopped over at Muar to buy Otak-otak and took late lunch cum early dinner...

Finally reached home around 9.30pm. Took about 30 minutes to clear both immigration counter in Johor /Singapore (2nd link).

Driving to Malaysia with our new EV (BYD M6) is truly a nerve wrecking experience!

Driving up to Kulai is still fairly safe (we had tried it once in Jan), as our fully charged EV has driving range of slightly over 500km. This time round, I challenge myself to days trip up to Sekinchan (about 1 hour drive away from Kuala Lumpur). (about 460km from Singapore).

My frustration with EV charging in Malaysia is:

1. there are quite a number of companies offering EV charging services - but alas, each carries its own app.

2. The app does not run well - hence, unable to charge - e.g. I was able to lower the barrier at the charging bay in Yong Peng, but unable to get the app to initiate/activate charging! Have to drive further up north along the highway to look for alternative charging station.

3. Fortunate for us, we were able to locate a charging station at Pitstop @ Tangkok (which offer fast charging facilities). However, we had some difficulties in registering our account with the EV charger app initially - this was "accidentally" overcome and we managed to fast charge our car to full capacity in 30 min or so.

4. Small villages eg Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan do not have EV Charging station. The 2 slow chargers located in Sekinchan were probably just installed recently, as they are not reflected in the apps /google map.

Our journey covered the following:

Singapore to Yong Peng (for breakfast) - then onward to Pulau Ketam /Port Klang (had to forego Pulau Ketam because of time constraint, but managed to eat Bak Kut Teh in Port Klang) -> Kuala Selangor (for firefly and blue tear night tour). Stay overnight at Kuala Selangor, then drive up to Sekinchan. Stay overnight at Sekinchan, the drove back to Singapore (with stop over at Muar for late lunch, and buy Otak-Otak).
