"Last" fishing village in Singapore

The fishing village just next to Yishun Dam is apparently the "last" fishing village in Singapore. Tucked in a remote corner of Singapore, not easily accessible by public transport, it would have been left unnoticed and possibly in dilapidated state, if not being "uncovered" by diligent photographers scouting various scenic spots in Singapore.

Somehow, being "trapped" in Singapore by COVID pandemic has spurred locals to explore various hidden gems in Singapore.

There is no "official parking lots" at the fishing village. One have to park along Seletar Club Rd adjacet to Rower's Bay Park (exit from Seletar West Link), and then walked across the road leading to Yishun Dam, to reach the fishing village.

The fishing village itself is being fenced off i.e. not accessible to public. But, it can be viewed from a cycling trail running parellel to the village. One can actually descend a gentle slope from the cyling trail, to reach the beach below, to have a closer look at the tress/fishing village.

The cycling trail... you can see people sitting at the gentle slope going down to the beach further up...

And the sceneries ...

View of the fishing village from Yishun Dam...

One way to bypass the fence and get close to the fishing village is to wade through the shallow, muddy shore next to Yishun Dam...

This is worth a thunderous applause

And finally, a close up view of algae tree stump...which resembles that of mounds.

Verdict - don't expect to see a large expanse of beach decorated with fishing boats. But it is a good place for photography. The place carries with it a touch of melancholy (for those who are sentimental). The sunset can be quite exhilarating at times.

11km hiking trail @ Mac Ritchie Reservoir

Went for the ultimate 11 km hiking trail, looping around Mac Ritchie Reservoir, last Sunday. It took me about 3 hours to complete the hike. My wife, who has better stamina than me, completed the trail in about 2.5 hour.

Started our hike around 7.10am.

As usual, Mac Ritchie Reservoir was already teeming with early birds, doing their exercise routines.

Circling around a tree...

Walking pass the wooden bridge, cutting across one side of the reservoir...

Seeing the rising sun in the distant...

Started our hike from Lornie Trail...

Walking on the boardwalk, enjoying the scenery.

Hiking up a slope...

Walking along boardwalk, flat terrain, and then down hill in the midst of the woods..

Passing by Jelutong Tower...

Chanced upon some monkeys along the way..

And finally completed the 11km hiking trail!

A view of the kayaking platform @ the reservoir..

And another group of monkeys sitting on the fence...

Finally, my wife waiting for my return from my long hike...

Sembawang Park

Sembawang Park is the only leisure park which encompasses a beach with a view of shipyard nearby. Those interested can also explore the vacant colonial bungalow houses nearby. Best of all, the parking lot is free!

My wife and I visited the park two days ago, after a short tour of the Tzu Chi Da Ai Gallery 慈济大爱人文馆 nearby.

(A) Exploring the neighbourhood of old colonial bungalow houses - can do a loop walking tour cum exercise while exploring the area.

The bungalow houses there are indeed spacious and elegant. Looks like they have been vacated for quite a while. I am sure before long, they will be refurbised into some sort of food and beverage outlet.

(B) Sembawang Park - of course, the exercise trails are there. BBQ pits and kids playground can also be found there. Some benches were scattered in various spots to rest our legs if needed.

Those who are adventurous can go for a dip in the beach

Not sure what this "snake"-like floating divider is used for?

Was pleasantly surprise with the serenity of the ships and cranes with their surrounding, captured by the photo!
